Camelina is the crop of jet fuels and cleaner waters. But will farmers grow it?
Camelina makes a star turn in a recent Star Tribune article. The winter-hearty oilseed—a “potential miracle crop”—is one of the crops being explored for use as a feedstock for the MN SAF Hub.
Tested over a decade by the U.S. Navy in its fighter-jet fuel blends, camelina is among the novel oilseeds now grown in Minnesota as a potential biofuel cover crop. Co-piloted with Cargill by the University of Minnesota’s Forever Green Initiative, a supporting partner of the Minnesota Sustainable Aviation Fuel Hub, the cover crop could turbocharge the industry’s efforts to make air travel less polluting.
